Amany Bouali is currently a third-year student at Virginia Commonwealth University studying Finance and Media Studies. She aspires to work in the realm of sustainable finance and climate risk after graduation, helping to fund sustainable infrastructure both in and outside the US. An internship she had at the US Department of Energy shaped her aspirations and encouraged her to use her finance skills in the environmental sector.
Amany also serves as the treasurer of the Global Intercultural Association at her university promoting diversity and encouraging international students to meet their peers through professional, cultural, and team building events.
PBC is important to Amany because her mom, Zeineb Mrad Bouali, struggled with the disease since 2017. Amany helped her mother through the emotional toll of dealing with a rare disease. She is well acquainted with the mental stress and coping that comes with PBC. Zeineb passed away suddenly in 2022 due to the complications of PBC and is dearly missed. Amany is dedicated to helping individuals with PBC find community and solutions and feel less isolated in their journey. She seeks to encourage patients to live their lives to the fullest and combat the stress that comes from living with PBC.
With her dad and sister, Amany founded and is in charge of fundraising for a scholarship to honor her mother at George Mason University. Zeineb was pursuing a Master’s Degree in English at the time of her passing so this scholarship will support a student who, like her, might have had a gap in their education due to immigration, having kids, or another similar reason and seeks to enter higher education at GMU.
